360 Plan

THE DOWNTOWN DALLAS 360 PLAN

THE VISION FOR DOWNTOWN DALLAS

Downtown Dallas 360 has served as the guiding plan for Downtown since 2011. Authored as a public-private partnership between Downtown Dallas, Inc. (DDI), the City of Dallas, private interests and the community, it has established a collective vision and implementation strategy for Downtown:

Downtown Dallas is a complete urban center composed of distinct yet interconnected districts linked by an accessible transit network, each offering a unique and diverse combination of places to live, refreshing open spaces, bustling street activity, successful business and retail, and dynamic urban experiences for residents, workers and visitors alike.

The plan was created as a dynamic document, setting priorities and outlining tactics while establishing a process by which planning remains nimble and responsive to progress. Out of 67 action items in the 2011 plan, a majority of the boxes have been checked as complete. Furthermore, significant developments have advanced that will have overlapping radii of impact in and around Downtown, emphasizing the need for coordination, connection and an affirmation of what we want Downtown Dallas to become. Therefore, beginning in June, DDI and the City of Dallas, along with our partners and the greater Downtown community, will launch the process of evolving Downtown Dallas 360 into strategies relevant to today through 2020.

The next 12 months of workflow is divided into phases, the first of which will be focused on a neighborhood needs analysis and community conversations about priorities, assets, as well as vision, physical and social connectivity. In partnership with planning firm MIG and the City of Dallas CityDesign Studio, we will work with each neighborhood in Downtown Dallas 360’s fifteen districts to plan workshops, forums and other outreach initiatives specifically designed for that area. See our Calendar for more information. Dialogue will extend throughout the urban core, encouraging thought about emerging and newly connected areas and how they relate to Downtown.

The following phases of technical work will be informed by input from the neighborhoods and technical conditions analyses, with the scope and outcome to be determined by you. Key urban issues we expect to emerge include walkability, mobility, urban design, housing, parks and open space, technology and education, all of which will be addressed in very specific ways that fit the unique character and development point of each district while ensuring a symbiotic relationship with the whole. The strategies will evolve from Downtown Dallas 360’s existing framework of Transformative Strategies , which set principles to be adapted to today’s conditions.

PROCESS AND TIMELINE

Downtown Dallas 360 will kick off in June 2015. Phase one will continue through October 2015, at which point technical work will be further scoped to commence by the end of the year. The full plan is projected to be complete by June 2016.
